Raquel Mendes

Raquel Mendes is a visual artist currently based in Canada. She completed her BFA in the Universidade de Brasilia in Brazil, after which she worked as an art educator and a baker. She is now pursuing her MFA in the IAMD program at OCAD University. In her ethics and research, she is informed by her identity as a bisexual and polyamorous woman and by her experience as a mother of two young girls. Her work is deeply rooted in the pursuit for meaning and connection, and through it, she seeks to incite contemplation around the ways in which we can better connect to the material world around us. Allying her spiritual inclinations and philosophical ponderings with a profound aesthetic concern, she makes use of a variety of forms of mark-making, analog or digital image capture, performance, and poetry to capture her relationship with the world.
