Katie Bond Pretti
In 2023 Katie Bond Pretti completes her MA in Contemporary Art History. She is an OGS Scholar, she holds the President’s Scholarship for her cohort, and she is also a painter. She is ready to trade words and phrases for colours and lines - she misses the expressive power of visual language.
Pretti is preoccupied with perception, can’t resist expressionism, and is fascinated by the emotive ability of abstraction. Transmission of affect through visual means is her obsession.
Having created and exhibited abstract paintings for 19 years, in 13 cities, over 3 continents, Pretti still considers the land presently called Toronto home. Outside residencies at ctrllab (Montreal), COME (Buenos Aires), Spark Box (Picton), and The White House (Toronto), she has independently held studios in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Buenos Aires.
Her book, Sonority of Words, was launched in Toronto by Art Metropole, featured at the NYC Art Book Fair, and added to the Artists’ Books Library at the National Gallery of Canada. Pretti’s work has been showcased at Art Toronto, auctioned at Ritchies, Waddington’s and Heffel, and profiled in Carte Blanche Volume 2: Painting, Magenta, Elle Canada, Fashion, Inside Entertainment, BlogTO, ArtSlant, Artsync, and others.
